What inspired you to start playing and making music?
My dad showed me Cubase, a music software, when I was a kid. Making computer music motivated me to learn other instruments like the piano and guitar, so I could play over my beats.
At the moment, is there any specific artist or sound that truly inspires you?
‘Sunken Gardens’ by the homie ØDYSSEE and Florent Garcia is a vibe! I love the way their tracks sound. I’ve also been listening to Lord Apex’s new project, and I religiously listen to Knxwledge beats all day!
On a normal day, how would you start with making a track – How was the process behind making the EP?
There’s no formula to my creative process, so it varies depending on the day. I feel like the most important thing for me is to try and stay in the present moment, and not overthink it. Sometimes making music is a really smooth process, and everything just “clicks”, which is how i felt when making the EP. I sometimes feel like the music-making process can be quite therapeutic, I get absorbed in the tracks over a few months, and I don’t really think about anything else, feels great!
The sound of the EP is very calm & deep – What kind of energy & feel to it would you like the listener to reflect on when listening to ‘Window Seat‘?
When I make music, I get into my feelings, I become quite introspective, nostalgic.
I hope that my music can help people just feel what they need to feel at that moment.
When listening to your project, the songs really connect well and float together beautifully – How did the timeline look for the project?
I produced all of the tracks when i moved into my new flat in October, I was feeling quite inspired and just made the songs over the course of a few months. I tried adding emphasis to the melodies in my music, and let them guide the songs. I can only make music when I don’t force the process, so I think the result always sounds natural, organic, and the tracks flow nicely together.
What can listeners expect from you you in the future in terms of sound & projects?
I have lots of tunes coming up with music friends, and I’ve been trying out different vibes that work within the hip hop genre. So expect some jazzy guitar tracks, but also some slightly more electronic textures on certain projects (like Window Seat).
What kind of equipment are you using right now and is there anything you’re looking to upgrade?
I make music with a pair of headphones, a basic keyboard and a really nice Fender Stratocaster guitar that’s older than I am. Hopefully one day I’ll set up a proper studio space with speakers and more gear, but for now I’m doing alright! Oh and I’d really like to get a Mood pedal one day!
